Attempting to run Texas

Attempting to run Texas

This year I've spent a reasonable amount of time in Texas and the USA with work. It sounds glamourous but in reality it means I eat out all the time, I drink way more than usual as the hotel bar becomes your lounge and my exercise routine goes out the window.

Unfortunately there is no parkrun in Houston - I now understand why! Even in October the temperature is regularly exceeding 30oC and the humidity is a killer. I attempted a run after work on Tuesday and I nearly melted in 29oC!! How do people train here, is it really all treadmill work?!

On Sunday I got up early (thanks jetlag) to beat the heat and went to Buffalo Bayou to run. It was the perfect anecdote to a week where I can go downstairs in the hotel, get coffee at Starbucks and walk under a highway directly into the office without ever going outside.

It's still a bit frustrating that I'm now almost 5 weeks post my surgery and I can run for 3 mins at a time. It's a great start though, I'm trying to stay positive and more importantly I am pain free. Now my main challenge is building up my consistency and trying to make sure there is a bit more balance in the work / life battle.
